Perhaps you and your partner are at an impasse about a critical life or relationship decision and don’t know how to move forward in a way that meets both your needs. Perhaps your romantic relationship is troubled by frequent misunderstandings that lead to escalated conflicts. Perhaps you and your partner keep getting caught in a negative cycle of hurt, defensiveness and withdrawal. Maybe you and your partner feel you’ve lost the bond and sense of closeness you once had and want to get it back. Maybe you and your partner’s communication styles seem so different, maybe even incomprehensible to each other, and you want to learn strategies to better relate to each other. Perhaps your relationship has been harmed by a breach in trust or fidelity, and you want to work on healing and rebuilding.
If you are experiencing these or similar challenges in your relationship, I can help. I am an experienced couples therapist who has worked with diverse couples facing a variety of difficulties. I will walk with you and work side by side with you to help you better understand yourself, your partner, and the origins and causes of your relationship troubles. I am fairly hands on and use the therapy sessions to role play, try new tools, dig deep into the ways in which each partner is contributing to the problems, and how they can begin to change old, unhealthy patterns. I believe couples can change and overcome deep and years-long challenges – I have witnessed it. I draw from Family Systems Theory, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Attachment Theory and the Gottman Method – but I make sure to tailor my approach to the particular needs and personalities of the couple. I enjoy working with couples, helping them learn about themselves, helping them find their strengths, and assisting them to find the courage to make positive changes in their relationships.
